Utility model
A utility model is a technical right that could be viewed as a "mini-patent." Its main advantage is that utility models are generally registered just a few weeks after filing of the application. This enables the company or inventor to secure control of its rights quickly, in order to provide a solid basis for marketing, advertising, sales or licensing.
There is also a six-month grace period for utility models. This means that registration is not impaired by presenting an invention at a trade show or foreign trade event, for example, as long as this "preview" does not occur more than six months in advance.
